As a part of Kendall Rae Johnson’s 1890 Youth Ambassador Tour, Kendall and team journeyed to the Louisiana bayous to visit Southern University A&M. The Southern University Ag Center welcomed Kendall to talk to their JAGcation Summer Camp students about agribusiness and youth farming. Receiving a copy of Kendall’s book “My Farm Biz”, the students had an amazing time thinking of farm names and business ideas. They also got to try Kendall’s value added products such as her tomato sauce and honey.

Peace by Piece NOLA City Garden Tour

Dee Dee Green and local farmers and land stewards gave Kendall and team a beautiful tour of the Peace by Piece NOLA garden sites. Giving the team background and insight into the New Orleans food systems landscapes and why the organization does the work it does. Included was Hollygrove Community Garden where the organization houses a mobile solar powered community fridge, feeding and educating the community.

Sprout NOLA Volunteer Day

Kendall and team enjoyed visiting the New Orleans NUag Cooperator, Sprout NOLA. Sprout NOLA organizes urban programming connecting producers to resources and raising food access. Sprout holds a weekly volunteer day where they cultivate a city space and let local growers use community plots to learn how to grow.

Crescent City Farmers Market

Was the perfect place to enjoy fresh produce and connect with local growers about different products and market development for young farmers.

Material Institute Farm and Indigo Garden Tour

Angel Cutno of the Material Institute of New Orleans Art and Culture gave Kendall and team an amazing tour of the 24 Carrot Garden and their new Indigo Die Garden. Angel gave us background on the programming of the institute focusing on a collective holistic approach to art, food, and culture. She also explained to us how programming prepares youth and gives them a chance to explore their abilities at a young age.
